Sardines Destroy Wharf

Some of the best Restaurants Monterey serve nothing but seafood. That makes perfect sense, because Monterey is home to the world famous Fisherman’s Wharf. The wharf was built in 1870 by the Pacific Coast Steamship Company to load/unload goods and passengers. In 1913 the city took ownership of the wharf. A huge sardine shipment being loaded onto a ship caused the ship to lean on the wharf and destroy 132 feet of the structure in 1923. It was reconstructed and extended.
